On May 17, 2003, he made his debut in Serie A against Reggina on behalf of Juventus FC, the club that also trained him. The club provided the top scorers of the Spanish league in 1993 (Bebeto with 29 goals), in 2002 (Diego Tristán with 21 goals) and in 2003 (Roy Makaay with 29 goals). Dutch striker Roy Makaay played for Deportivo from 1999 to 2003 and won the Golden Boot as Europe's top scorer in the 2002/03 season, after which he was sold to Bayern Munich. The following year there was an organized competition again and Nürnberg won the local competition in the final with 4:0 against TV 1860 Munich. It was Deportivo's first glorious period, led by Helenio Herrera, among others, and with players such as Pahiño and later European Footballer of the Year Luis Suárez. In the 1950s, several foreign players came to Deportivo, including the Argentinians Corcuera and Oswaldo. In the years up to 1991 there would be a lot of promotions and relegations. Cesare Prandelli, who was appointed as the new national coach of Italy after the 2010 World Cup, took Barzagli – by now a basic player in the Juventus team – back into the national selection in October 2011 for two international matches in the qualifying tournament for the next European championship. Barzagli missed the first two group matches of the tournament with a calf injury suffered in the final week before the first match against defending champions Spain, but was kept in the squad by Prandelli despite his injury. After the European Championship, he kept his place in the starting team and played in six World Cup qualifiers in 2012 and 2013. Barzagli was also included in the squad for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, where he played in three games.

In November 2011, Barzagli missed two friendlies through injury, but returned on February 29, 2012 to play the full friendly against the United States, which was lost 0–1 by a Clint Dempsey goal. Football – Orange goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar drops out for the European Championship qualifiers against Romania and Slovenia. In 2012-2013 he played on a rental basis for Hellas Verona and Vicenza Calcio. With both clubs he played in Serie B. After that Bojinov played for Levski Sofia, Ternana Calcio and FK Partizan. The club's period of success began in 1992 and eventually led to a national title in 2000 (with club top scorer Roy Makaay), winning the Copa del Rey (in 1995 and 2002), three times the Spanish Supercopa, a semi-final in the UEFA Champions League in 2004, two quarter-finals in the Champions League and a semi-final in the European Cup II. The final of the European Cup I took place on May 29, 1985 in the Heysel Stadium in Brussels. The 2020–21 UEFA Nations League Final was the second final of the UEFA Nations League. The first major success was the elimination of Real Madrid in 1932 in the Copa del Rey. As coach of Argentina, Lionel Scaloni previously won the finals of the Copa América 2021 and the Finalissima 2022. Of the players from the Argentina selection for the final, Lionel Messi is the only one who has previously played minutes in a World Cup final (the one in 2014). Seven players from the French selection previously played in a World Cup final (the one of 2018): Hugo Lloris, Benjamin Pavard, Raphaël Varane, Lucas Hernández, Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud. On May 23, 2016, he was included in the squad for the 2016 European Football Championship in France.
